Marian Charlotte DiNovi, 1930-2025
Marian DiNovi of Elmhurst, Illinois, died Thursday, January 9th, 2025 with her loving family at her side.
Marian was born on September 22, 1930 to William and Margaret (nee Purvis) Hill in Oak Park. She grew up with her younger brother John in the Galewood neighborhood of Chicago and graduated in 1948 from Steinmetz High School .
Marian married her husband Dr. Michael Alex DiNovi in 1954. Together they moved to Melrose Park in 1960 to start their family and embark on a happy life together, building lifelong friendships and living close to family. After her husband’s death, Marian moved to Elmhurst with her dog, Doc. She loved her townhouse in Elmhurst and the many friends she made in her neighborhood.
Marian was a dedicated wife, mother, and friend. She was involved in all aspects of raising her children and took a keen interest in all of their activities. She was a room mother, PTA member, Cub Scout Den Mother, and an avid fan of her children’s sporting activities. Most importantly, she was an exceedingly loving, kind, considerate, generous, and selfless woman. She instilled all of those traits in her children, and she inspired all who knew her.
Marian’s many interests ranged from animals to hockey. All animals loved Marian, and she loved all animals. Through her sorority, she raised funds for the training of leader dogs, providing assistance to those who were visually impaired. She inherited her love of hockey from her Canadian father and shared that passion with her Hawk’s fan husband. Until the very end, she loyally and passionately cheered on the Chicago Blackhawks.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents, William and Margaret Hill, her husband, Michael DiNovi, her brother, John Hill, and her sister-in-law, Mary Spezio. She is survived by her son Fiore (Marguerite) DiNovi, daughter Margaret (Alex) Primiano, and daughter Mary (Chris) Olson. She is also survived by her grandchildren Paige Olson, Alexis (Peter Karahalios) Olson, Jessica Primiano, and Michael Primiano, her sister-in-law Ronnie Hill, her nieces Roseann, Roberta, and Liz, and her nephew David.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 14th at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Melrose Park from 9am until 11am, with a funeral mass following at 11am. Interment at Wheatland Presbyterian Cemetery, Plainfield, Illinois.
