Uncle Dick was always kind and gentle with us grand kids. He was the perpetual teacher and storyteller. Whether that was showing us something he had crafted for the house or telling us about riding horses around what-was-then, rural Norridge. I vividly remember us watching 90s-era Bears games in his basement. He would teach me about the game and about the glory days of the 80s-era teams in between colorful comments about whoever the current quarterback was -- Erik Kramer and Cade McNown come to mind. Uncle Dick will be missed but, I like to think that his exuberance and storytelling is carried on in the rest of the family. Truly, a lasting tribute worthy of him.

Because my brother worked so hard at the stable (not that he necessarily had a choice), my sister and I were able to enjoy our youth - which was actually pretty normal. Dick was always working, and he was a really good worker - which yielded a better business for our Dad and ultimately our family, but although he was a good athlete, joining a team at school was not an option - rode horses, built barns & houses, watched over his younger siblings. He probably didn't know he was sacrificing for us, but he did it without complaining. When it was time for me to get a 'big' bike, I got his. When Audrey wanted to go on a date, the guy had to pass through Dick first - and he didn't pass all of them. When I wanted to play little league he bought me my first mitt. I was able to join teams, play baseball & football, and ultimately go to college because he did what needed to be done, and when it needed to be done. As others will note, he loved kids, helped everyone, and was always there when he was needed. He had "his ways", we all do, but I can attest that he was a terrific big brother. Thanks for everything Dick.

I’m lucky enough to have joined the family through Julie Fanta my Wife. Richard made me feel as family. Not because he was always nice... he was always genuine! His nick name for you was his “I Love You.” Julie and I on a business trip left our middle son Neal a 2 year old In Dick and Romana’s Care for a week. We were met with a shower of what Neal liked. By Romana... yes! But just as much by Dick! He was given the roll of provider and protector for many of his family. He excepted and embraced that roll. He excelled in it! I’m Grateful to have known Dick. When I think of Richard... I Smile! Thank You Richard!

I remember being welcomed in the Nemeth house like it was my second family home and Auntie Mona & Uncle Dick being the perfect combination of “sugar & spice”; always caring, always supportive, always interested in what you were up to. They loved having kids around and you felt it. I’m sure many of us cousins remembered a kind act he performed, mine was the time he delivered a shipment of cardboard to my home from a job because he knew I liked to draw when I was around 8. It was a generous fatherly confidence-building gesture that just stays with you as kid and now as a father myself. I know he’s built countless projects for others with the same kindness. My entire life he took the time to listen and laugh at a story I’d share. Thank God my sister gave me one more of those moments with a FaceTime at his bed this week. I told him I loved him, thanked him for all his support and for all his religious teachings he gave me being my Godfather. Because of this I now make horror films. I actually got him to laugh one more time and after I didn’t realize how badly I missed it and needed it. Thank you Uncle Dick for all you gave me, you were one of a kind and I love you. Jeff

Though I am only his nephew and perhaps did not know him as intimately as other is the family may have, I still can confidently say that he was a great man. My memories of him were always positive, someone who I looked forward to seeing and who balanced fun with serious very well. The way I knew him, he was a man who you could count on for a joke just as much as you could for help. He will be missed.
Chris W. Great America.
Talked a lot of snow skiing with Dick. He was a nice man and will be missed.

Had the enjoyment working with Dick at Great America for many years. He had a lot of great stories and jokes. Most of all, he always put the quality into whatever he worked on! That was the best!
