With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Shirley, who left us peacefully on December 8th, 2025. She was the cherished wife of 59 years to her devoted husband, James Ziaja, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
Shirley was the loving mother of James (Edyta), Deanna (Andy Pieczko), and Lori Yracheta. She was the proud Nana of Stephanie (Craig Schottenstein) and Nicholas, and the treasured Great-Nana to Jayden, Mason, Spencer, Landon, and Roman. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, and she delighted in every moment spent with them, showering them with love, laughter, and unwavering support.
A true Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bears fan, Shirley often reminisced about playing ball with her brothers as a child. One of her greatest joys was watching her son Jimmy play football—cheering him on proudly through his years at Gordon Tech, and later as he continued his football journey at Purdue University.
Her love of life shined through in the small, meaningful moments—shopping trips to TJ Maxx with her daughter Deanna, long heartfelt phone calls with her granddaughter Stephanie that could last for hours, and the way she made friends wherever she went. Nikki loved blowing out Nana’s candles as a child. He cherished his summer adventures with her at garage sales—memories that will forever warm his heart. Shirley and her husband James also shared countless memories together at the Rivers Casino, enjoying every adventure side by side.
Shirley was a girly girl at heart—she adored her jewelry and always kept a fresh, perfect manicure (Hot Pink). She carried herself with grace, warmth, and a big, generous heart that touched everyone who knew her. Her laughter, kindness, and welcoming spirit will remain with us always.
She will be deeply missed but forever held in our hearts.
Memorial visitation will be from Noon until 3pm at Rago Brothers 7751 W. Irving Park. Prayer service will be held at 2:30pm
