Susan Patricia Arl, beloved daughter, sister, cousin and friend, was cherished by everyone who knew her for her loving kindness and generosity of spirit. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Helen Arl, and her sister, Ellen Marie Arl. She is survived by her cousin Michael Thrams and his sons, Susan’s favorite boys, Matthew Allen Thrams and Brayden Michael Thrams or, as she lovingly referred to him, “B-Man." Burial will be private.  If desired, a tribute gift may be made in her honor to the Parkinson’s Foundation at www.parkinson.org

Liz & Eric Dechant
Susan dedicated herself to bettering her community in Chicago. She volunteered for every group and held leadership positions in each one. She helped raise thousands of dollars to support the local library, school, and park, providing programming and new buildings for generations of children. We will miss her whip smart sense of humor, marketing and advertising know-how, and mischievous laugh.

Susan—my oldest friend! We met at U of I in 1967. We have been roommates, travel companions, and lifelong friends…. Dearest “Ardyth”, the Girls are getting together today to celebrate and cherish your memory. There will be laughter ( and tears) all around. You are and always will be irreplaceable♥️

Susan, after leaving many messages unable to reach you, I finally had the sense to check the obits. I have so many memories of us from high school and beyond. My favorites are the chair breaking when we were eating the fresh out of the oven popovers my mother made, me learning I had to have pickled herring for New Years Eve at one of your mothers parties. I also remember Ellen receiving a bottle of Crown Royal as a gift and us trying a few drinks when no one was home. I remember I always had to drive. Took you a long time to get confident. Then to my surprise at the last time I saw you, the focus of driving stopped the tremors of Parkinson’s for a bit. Good bye my old friend.
