Wendalina Arroyo

Birth Date:

Date of Death:
Monday, December 2, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wendalina (Wendy) Arroyo on December 2, 2024, at the age of 83.  Wendy was born on July 18, 1941 in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico to Felipe and Justina (nee Lopez) Justiniano.

Wendy was married to the tall and handsome love of her life, Angel Luis Arroyo, for 45 years until his death in 2014.  Wendy was known for her strong will, fierce love for her family, and dedication to the nursing profession.

Wendy came to Chicago in the late 1960s for vacation with a friend.  Out of curiosity, she applied for a job at a local hospital and was hired immediately.  She bravely stayed to work in Chicago, choosing not to return to Puerto Rico once the vacation was over.  For nearly the next 40+ years, Wendy worked as a registered nurse at Walther Memorial Hospital, St. Elizabeth Hospital, and St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital.  Wendy was a very skilled and respected professional, working in many specialties, but best known as a pediatric nurse. She often said that pediatrics was her passion, was celebrated for her excellence in clinical care, and loved working with children until her retirement in 2008.

Survived by her only daughter, Wendy (Urrutia) Arroyo, son-in-law Joverty Urrutia; grandchildren Michael and Rebecca Urrutia; sister Maria Justiniano, and several loving nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Wendy's name at https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html.
