Justine Pruyn Trowbridge, age 92, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, in Chicago, Illinois. She attended the Brearley School and Smith College, where she earned an A.B. in History. She grew up in New York City and Colebrook, Connecticut, the daughter of Erving Pruyn and Carolyn Prentice Pruyn. After marrying Charles Lind Trowbridge, she resided in Brooklyn, New York; Garden City, New York; Brookville, New York, where she raised her six children; and Syosset, New York. She worked for the chairman of the New York Stock Exchange before retiring to Brattleboro, Vermont and then finally to Chicago, Illinois.
In Vermont, Justine volunteered her time reading with children in school, visiting mothers of new babies, helping visually impaired persons with their checking accounts, working at the local hospital, and serving as a guardian ad litem in family court. Justine loved and was loved dearly by her children and grandchildren. Every community in which she lived benefited from her generosity of spirit and unselfish nature.
She is preceded in death by her son, Thomas Trowbridge, and her sister, Carolyn Pruyn. She is survived by her daughters, Penelope, Alison, and Phyllis Trowbridge; her sons, William and John Trowbridge; and her grandchildren, Samantha and Zachary Trowbridge, Trevor and Hannah Hafner, Amy and Jamie Blazej, and James, Holly, Henry, and Alastair Trowbridge.
