Sylvio Carfo

Birth Date:
Wednesday, June 27, 1934
Date of Death:

Sylvio Carfo 91, Loving husband of Anita nee (Tufano), beloved son of the late Benedetto and Maria nee (Caputo), Beloved brother of the late Elda (Roy) Ratti, late

Ben (Shirley) Carfo, Loving Father of Jeannine (Gary) Como, Deeadra (Tom), Randy, Beloved Binky, and Puddles Stapka, Jennifer Carfo, Benny Carfo, Loving Grandfather of Angela Como, Michael (Karol) Becker, Peter (Alexandra) Como, Loving Great Grandfather to Oakley Becker, Gianna and Olivia Como.

Sylvio grew up on the West Side of Chicago in the Mother Cabrini parish where he served as an alter boy. A patrol boy at Shephard School, and a ballplayer at Harrison High School.

Sylvio a loving Son, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Pops, and Pal.  Married to his wife Anita for 66 wonderful years! He loved everything about Family.  The parties, the Holidays, Bocce Nights, making Syl's Homemade wine.  Correcting our homework, helping with Science experiments, creating our backyard ice rink, being a baseball coach and much more.  He baked, cooked and together with his wife and children ran the family business, PaPa Syl's.

He played Major League Baseball with the Washington Senators.  As a master carpenter and craftsman he was a celebrity in the town of Albuquerque New Mexico where they displayed his replica of the "Miraculous Staircase" in the Loretto Chapel. As an inventor, he created a baseball hitting device that was tested and approved by Hall of Fame baseball player Ozzie Smith.  Another one of his baseball patents, which was stolen by the Houston Astros, is being used today.

He worked long hours and two jobs to send his children to Catholic School, which was a priority for their family.

Anyone who met him was better for it! He greeted you with a smile and he never complained.  Even in those last hours with his strength weakening, he greeted the medical staff with the care and respect he showed everyone throughout his life.  It's impossible to summarize a life of 91 years of a Son, Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather who was caring, loving, intelligent, selfless and respected.  A man who lived life to the fullest because of his love for his family.  To sum up 91 years of Sylvio Carfo would be to want 91 more!

The love and devotion to his family was always his priority, leaving his family always loved and taken care of.

Thinking of you all during this time of loss. May this scripture bring a little comfort… Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.’ (1 Peter 5:7) — In this moment of loss, I find comfort in knowing that God truly cares for us, especially when our hearts are heavy. May His loving care bring peace and strength to the family.

An amazing testament to Mr. Carfo. My condolences to the entire Carfo Family; one of the nicest, kindest families on the NW Side of Chicago. Growing up with Benny, we always felt welcome at the Carfo’s house.
